June’s Film Pick “Just Sing” Proudly Demonstrates Its Pitch Perfect Appeal
June 28, 4:00 pm, The Lyceum

Co-directed by Angelique Molina and Abraham Troen, “Just Sing” is a music-filled documentary following a group of exceptional college vocalists on their journey to one of the world’s most electrifying a capella stages. As they chase a championship dream, the film goes far beyond rehearsals and performances, revealing personal stories, pressures, friendships, and self-discovery that shape their lives along the way. Following the film will be a discussion with cast member Lily Castle and a live performance from Suits & Sirens, a premier a capella ensemble based in Northern Virginia. “Space Cowboy” is a stunning examination of the life of freefall cinematographer and competitive skydiver Joe Jennings. Jennings’ work as a flying cameraman is instantly recognizable to those who recall the famous 1998 Pepsi Superbowl commercial starring a flock of geese or the inaugural ESPN X Games. More than just a testament to his athleticism and ability to film complex aerial stunts, the film follows Jennings as he describes his personal mental health journey with depression and agonizing grief. Spend August’s National Night Out at “Louder Than Guns” Screening

Take a journey with Old Crow Medicine Show’s frontman Keith Secor and NPR journalist David Greene through rural, urban, and suburban America that humanizes all sides of this country’s polarized gun debate through the power of music, civil discourse, and unexpected common ground. The film tackles the extremely complicated and sensitive subject of gun violence, inviting people with diverse viewpoints to join in a conversation.
